Sago Takamori was one the most influential samurai in Japanese history. Living during the late Edo en early Meji period, he is especially known for his role in the Satsuma Rebellion of 1877. His fight against the modernization of the country and outlawing the way of the Sumurai led by the government eventually led to his death in battle. Nowadays, Takamori has been recognized as ‘The Last True Sumurai’ all throughout the country giving him legendary status for his heroism and courage to stand against the authorities in a time when the traditional Japanese culture was under pressure.

The back of this shirt is inspired by the front side of the samurai’s kimono.
